Snowflakes, Coffee Dates, and Denzel Washington

Good afternoon everyone! This is Nick here, sorry for the long gap between posts! So this past week has been quite the eventful one! For starters, Katie almost adopted yet another cat, and for some reason, I almost let her. The kitten's name was Ramona and what really sold me was the fact the she had two different colored eyes: one blue and one gold.

She was very sweet and playful, but thankfully she was adopted into a loving home.

Katie and I celebrated our first Valentine's Day as an engaged couple on Thursday. We went to this Italian restaurant in College Station called Cafe Capri, and after dinner we had a little coffee date at Starbucks. It was raining all night long, but as we were leaving Starbucks, we noticed that the rain had turned into sleet! It was a little frustrating to walk outside and get pelted in the face with ice, but it quickly became worth the pain when it started snowing! That's right, snow, in Texas, in February. So much for global warming. Huge snowflakes were coming down and actually accumulating on cars and the roads. Katie, Lauren, Riley, and I also went to go see the Book of Eli that night, which was an action packed, crazy-good movie. I love Denzel Washington and this movie makes you want to really memorize scripture, just in case there is a massive nuclear fallout.

So the rest of this weekend has just been pretty chill, and after 3 days of procrastinating, I finally got around to posting. Katie and I are still searching for venues for our wedding, and I think we've narrowed it down to two or three possible locations for a venue. Unfortunately, Disney World isn't looking like it will work out, but I think Katie might have sold me on what looks to be a great deal for a cruise for our honeymoon. More to come on that soon!

Where Dreams Come True

So this weekend Nick and I were talking to my parents about wedding plans including location, reception, etc and my mother mentioned how much easier it would be to have a destination wedding. Of course I jumped all over this and where did I look first? Walt Disney World! I have to admit Nick has had this idea before, and I struck it down for some reason, but not this time! We started doing some research, and all of the wedding options looked absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love! Nick has recently been requesting that we look into having our honeymoon at Disney World, so having our destination wedding there would be perfect! They plan the majority of your wedding, and the thought of just showing up in my wedding dress ready to go sounds amazing to me. Not to mention, the whole idea is just magical! What girl doesn't want her own fairy tale? There is one minor problem though...the guest list. You can only have 20 guests. After talking about it with Nick, we decided that a small family wedding would be fine (especially if we were at Disney World!). We made a tentative guest list, but nothing is final. I am going to talk to the wedding coordinator at Disney and figure out all of the small details this week. Just emphasize again...all of this is tentative and we are still considering the traditional church wedding. I have to say, though, the possibility of a Disney wedding makes my heart beat faster. I have not been this excited about planning a wedding until now! Nick and I will be doing a lot of thinking, planning, and praying about this. Whether at Disney World or at a church, I know our wedding will be wonderful! Just in case you were wondering what a Disney Wedding would look like, here are a few pictures.

Wedding Pavillion

The pavillion is on it's own island

We would arrive in a horse drawn carriage...by Nick's request!

As we think about all of this, we are also working on getting our engagement pictures taken. I have been calling people right and left and I have to say, I never realized how expensive photographers can be! After exhausting myself this last week, Nick and I were sitting in church when a business card fell out of my bible. The card was for a photographer in College Station...perfect right? I am guessing I picked it up some time last semester, just in case. It is amazing how God will give you what you need at the exact time you need it! I immediately called the lady, and she seemed very nice and her prices were reasonable. Nick and I are going to meet her this Friday at the studio to review more of her pictures and talk about engagement picture options. I am praying that this photographer is the one because I don't know if there are any photographers left to call in the area. Hopefully all goes well!

Can I just pass Go and collect my 200 dollars?

Hey everyone! This is Nick, and unfortunately, I have some bad news to share with all of you....school has started again. I know, it's a tragedy. But, this is my last semester at Lonestar, and Katie graduates in May from A&M, so there is some good news for all of you! So like I said, school started up again on Tuesday, and I must say, this semester is looking pretty tough. I'm taking two psychology classes, a philosophy class, a second world history class, and an 8 A.M. weight lifting class. I say the time of my weight class to emphasize that it is 8 in the morning. I'm really not sure what I was thinking when I signed up for that to be honest. Oh well, I need to gain some weight anyways.

For those of you who don't know me inside and out, I have recently discovered a love for the guitar about 10 months ago. Well in September I started teaching guitar lessons to my 11 year old neighbor, and about 3 weeks ago, I guess his mom decided to spread the word, because one of the women I work with said her son would also love to learn the guitar! So I said sure, and as I was telling her about how I teach my lessons, another lady overheard us and said that her grandson would ALSO like lessons. So as it stands, I am now about to undertake 3 guitar students after only 10 months of playing the guitar. I have to admit, I'm kind of nervous because I never imagined I would be doing this sort of thing, but on the bright side, this will allow me to start saving for Katie's wedding band that she posted pictures of earlier! God works in mysterious ways right? Well that's about all the news updates I have for today. Oh! Katie and I have now started to undertake the task of creating a guest list. So far I think we are nearing 150 people. A little bigger than we had planned, but we can't help it that we're so popular! :)

So I figured I'd end the blog with this fun fact. This picture was taken at Katie and I's church, 3 years ago. This was the very first day that we met. I found this puppet, thought it looked freakishly like me, so I decided to introduce myself to this pretty blonde girl that just walked into the room in an attempt to be cute. I guess it worked.

Rings and Colors!

So I thought I would give you a little bit of what is planned so far. As Nick mentioned below, we are looking at having the wedding sometime in December 2011, but a girl can still plan right? I have been looking at magazines, browsing the web, and slowly discovering ideas for the wedding. I have decided to make a folder on my computer to keep track of everything I like, including pictures or just fun ideas for the big day!

Last weekend, Nick and I went to the ring store again to look at wedding bands. As you can see he beat me to it and posted the one we thought would be nice for him, but mine is below. My engagement ring will fit right into the enhancer. It is so beautiful and I can't wait to have it all put together!

The Enhancer

The final Ring!

The lady at the ring store was very helpful and she even cleaned my ring for free! I am still trying to remember that our wedding is not for another 2 years and I keep wanting to plan everything now! I am sure I will appreciate the extra time when I start graduate school though and I am thankful that things are working out so far for a December wedding. I have always dreamed of having a winter wedding (as much as I can say that in Texas). Our wedding colors are going to be sapphire blue, silver, and white. I absolutely love these colors and I think they are going to look great together. I tried to find swatches to show everyone, but this is as close as I could get!

I am currently looking for someone to take our engagement photos, so expect those in March!

Blue people and diamond rings...

So it's about 11 at night and I'm just sitting at the computer, not wanting to sleep yet, and I figured "Hey, you have a blog now, why not put it to good use." So for those of you who actually spend your time perusing around blogs, here's to you. :)

Today has been kind of hard for me, seeing as my new fiance is an hour and a half away, staying at her apartment by herself, that is, if you don't count her two very strange cats whom she considers our children. Even with her slightly frightening view of her cats as her children, I still miss her. She was bored at work today and sent me a picture of one of the wedding rings she was thinking of buying for me, and I must say, she has some very elegant taste. Check it out for yourself...

I like it! What do you think people of the internet?

Well, I suppose it's time for me to give in to my heavy eyes and drift off to bed. I saw "Avatar" for the third time tonight, by the way, so hopefully I will dream about being one of those blue guys. That would be awesome... Anyways, goodnight!

Nick's new found love...

So Nick and I went into Petsmart today to buy cat litter...yes I wait until he is here so he can carry the 40 pound box up three flights of stairs. While we were in the store we walked by the cat adoption area, as usual, but this time it was Nick that got all soft hearted! There was a cat there named Sly, one year old, loves to cuddle, and very affectionate. Nick stood there, frozen, and stared at the cat. He then began making comments on how bad he needed a companion. Although I am used to these "companion" comments, they never concern a cat! Nick usually is making comments about how annoying cats are and how dogs are sooooo much better, but not today folks. It is official...Nick likes cats!! If you know me at all, you can imagine just how excited I was to see Nick wanting a feline friend.

In case you were wondering, we did not bring Sly home. We decided Stella and Stuart are enough to handle. Speaking of my two kitties, Stuart has established a new sleeping place. Boxes are old news! In the cabinet seems to be the new "hip" place to be. Nick and I were hanging out in my apartment when we realized Stuart hadn't made an appearance in quite sometime. After checking everywhere, we found him under my bathroom cabinet with the cabinet door shut. I always knew he was talented, but I am still waiting to figure out how he opens the door and successfully shuts himself in there!

Stuart enjoying my newly washed towels

Okay I think that is about all for tonight! Nick and I spent quite a bit of time at the bookstore today looking at wedding decorations, flowers, and food ideas so those should be coming soon!

New Beginnings...

Welcome to Katie and I's new blog! Katie was so excited to start a blog that she just grabbed the computer from me, mid facebook session, and just started going crazy!! Well, I suppose I should start us off by saying that as of December 24th, 2009, we are engaged! :D I know how much you all want to hear the story so here goes...

First of all, it was cold! 35 degrees and crazy windy. I sent Katie all over Magnolia, Tomball, and the Woodlands on a fun, romantic scavenger hunt. I had to recruit Katie's sister Holly to get Katie out of the house so I could drop off the first two clues, but Katie decided she didn't want to go on a walk because "she wasn't in the mood." I think my heart stopped for a second...but Holly pulled it off, I swooped in like a ninja, and was on my merry way. Katie traveled from her house, to the church where we first met, to a park at an elementary school, and all the way out to the Woodlands! From there she picked up a clue and gift from P.F. Changs, then over to Tinseltown, and then out to the Christmas tree on the river walk where I was freezing, I mean, waiting. By the time Katie got there, I couldn't feel my hands and was honestly worried that I wouldn't be able to open up the box that her ring was in, but I pulled it off, she said yes, there were many tears, alot of laughs, and then we went on to warm up in a wonderful Italian restaurant in which we stuffed our faces.

The End

So now we are finishing up our schooling here and preparing to move off to Lubbock! We are slowly planning tidbits of the wedding, which will most likely be in December of 2011, so mark your calendars! Katie will also be posting on this blog so expect much more fun to come! Enjoy the engagement pics!
